Softball Recap: Breckinridge County Comes Up Short

Breckinridge County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They came up short against the Butler County Bears, falling 8-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-1 back in March.

Ava Armes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and five unearned) runs on nine hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Josie Mitcham and Peyton Kennedy did some serious damage despite the final result: Mitcham went 1-for-4 with one home run, while Kennedy went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and one double. That double was Kennedy's first of the season.

Breckinridge County's record now sits at 5-12. As for Butler County, their win bumped their record up to 7-17.

Coming up, Breckinridge County will square off against Taylor County at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Fighting Tigers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Butler County, they will head out on the road to square off against Hancock County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
