Basketball Recap: Rock Falls Comes Up Short

Rock Falls was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 15th straight defeat. They lost 57-37 to the Genoa-Kingston Cogs. While losing is never fun, the Rockets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 531st, while the Cogs are ranked 251st).

When it comes to explaining why Rock Falls lost, don't look at Miley Bickett. Despite the final result, she went 5-for-9 on her way to 18 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Bickett a new career-high in shooting accuracy (56%).

Presley Meyer had an outrageously good game for Genoa-Kingston as she went 8-for-11 to rack up 22 points and five steals. Thanks to that strong game, Meyer now owns an excellent 45.5% field goal percentage. Another player making a difference was Ally Poegel, who posted 11 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Rock Falls' loss dropped their record down to 3-25. As for Genoa-Kingston, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-12 record this season.

Rock Falls didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-20 defeat against Oregon on the 8th. As for Genoa-Kingston, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-30 win against Woodstock on the 10th.
