Basketball Game Preview: St. Joseph Catholic Bruins vs. Simpson Academy Cougars

The St. Joseph Catholic Bruins will be taking part in a tournament against the Simpson Academy Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with St. Joseph Catholic sitting on seven straight wins and Simpson Academy on 11.

Last Friday, the stars were shining brightly for St. Joseph Catholic in a 71-53 victory over Lawrence County. Given the Bruins' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while the Cougars are ranked 92nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Simpson Academy faced off against Wayne Academy two weeks ago. Simpson Academy took their game with ease, bagging a 67-33 win over Wayne Academy. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 34 points or more this season.

Simpson Academy pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for St. Joseph Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 16-1.

St. Joseph Catholic came up short against Simpson Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 50-38. Can St. Joseph Catholic avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
