Baseball Recap: Huntington Find Success

Huntington took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against Southeastern, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huntsmen skirted past the Panthers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huntsmen have posted since May 21, 2024.

Brayden Elliott spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 12 Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Huntington is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Troy McDonald was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.

The victory made it two in a row for Huntington and bumps their season record up to 10-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 8 runs in those games. As for Southeastern, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-10.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Huntington is set to square off against their familiar foe Unioto at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Huntsmen 4.1, the Shermans 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Southeastern will challenge rival Paint Valley at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
