Basketball Recap: West Florence Takes a Loss

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 70-39, which was the final score in the West Florence Knights's tilt against the Lugoff-Elgin Demons on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 209th, while the Demons are ranked 44th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lugoff-Elgin to victory, but perhaps none more so than Braylen Mumford, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten assists. Those ten assists gave Mumford a new career-high. Kaleb Long was another key player, putting up ten points along with five assists and three steals.

West Florence's loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Lugoff-Elgin, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-3.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Sumter the next time they take the court. Lugoff-Elgin will head out to face Sumter at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, while West Florence will host them at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
