Basketball Game Preview: Douglass Eagles vs. Oakland Mills Scorpions

The Douglass Eagles and the Oakland Mills Scorpions will round out the year against one another at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Oakland Mills is hoping to do what Surrattsville couldn't on Thursday: put an end to Douglass' winning streak, which now stands at three games. Douglass simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Surrattsville 81-28.

Courtney Smith and Naiy'Lah Crutchfield were among the main playmakers for Douglass as the former went 11 of 20 en route to 25 points and three steals and the latter dropped a double-double on 17 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, Crutchfield is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Francesca Svizzero, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 10 points in addition to seven assists and six boards.

Douglass smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Oakland Mills blew past Atholton, posting a 58-20 victory. That 38 point margin sets a new team best for the Scorpions this season.

Douglass' win bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Oakland Mills, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
