Softball Recap: Eunice Cardinals vs. Jal Panthers
It was a proper cat-fight when Eunice duked it out with Jal on Saturday. The Cardinals fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 9-8. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cardinals of the 11-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
McKayla Pierce was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, Lexi Garcia made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Another player making a difference was Isabelle Pierce, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Eunice dropped their record down to 7-7 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 9-6 Loving (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.5% over those games). As for Jal, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season.
Eunice is taking a road trip to take on Dora at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cardinals are facing the Coyotes at the right time seeing as the Coyotes are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Jal, they will welcome Loving at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Falcons will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight.
