Preview: Leicester Wolverines vs. Oxford Pirates
The Leicester Wolverines will head out on the road to face off against the Oxford Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Massachusetts (Leicester is ranked 190th, while Oxford is ranked 214th).
Last Saturday, Leicester got themselves on the board against Southbridge, but Southbridge never followed suit. They blew past the Pioneers 41-0 at home. Leicester didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this win makes it their second in a row.
Meanwhile, Oxford put the finishing touches on their third blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Bartlett 53-28.
Robbie Fisher was his usual excellent self, rushing for 124 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries. Oxford also got a significant boost from Kingston Nickerson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 87 yards.
Another reason for the win was Oxford's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Bartlett's QB won't forget Cody Huard anytime soon given Huard sacked him five times.
Leicester's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Oxford, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Leicester suffered a grim 41-21 defeat to Oxford in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Thankfully for Leicester, Lucas Lambert (who threw for 227 yards and three touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes, and also punched in two touchdowns on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
