Basketball Recap: Cumberland Comes Up Short

After flying high against Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg last Saturday, Cumberland came back down to earth. The Cumberland Pirates took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Flora Wolves on Thursday. The Pirates haven't had much luck with the Wolves recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the defeat, Cumberland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Cameron Roedl went 5 of 10 en route to 13 points and seven rebounds. Another player making a difference was Chase Stewart, who posted 12 points.

Cumberland now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Flora, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-6.

Cumberland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 44-38 win against Vandalia on the 26th. As for Flora, they and Shelbyville will face off at 12:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Shelbyville has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
