Softball Game Preview: Colfax Bulldogs vs. Potlatch Loggers

The Colfax Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the Potlatch Loggers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Colfax will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Colfax barely beat Medical Lake the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bulldogs blew past the Cardinals 24-8 on Tuesday. Considering the Bulldogs have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ainslee Imler was a standout: she scored four runs and stole three bases while going 4-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Riley Hennigar also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Imler wasn't the only one making solid contact: Colfax kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Potlatch got themselves on the board against Prairie on Friday, but Prairie never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Pirates with a sharp 12-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Loggers.

Potlatch also got a great performance from Brieanna Winther as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Kylie Heitstuman was a standout: she scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaida Andres, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3.

Potlatch's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Colfax, their record is now 8-2.

Everything went Colfax's way against Potlatch when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Colfax made off with a 20-10 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
