Softball Recap: Valmeyer Comes Up Short

Valmeyer extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-7. They lost 13-1 to the Steeleville Warriors. If the Pirates were looking for revenge after losing 6-3 to the Warriors when the teams met back in May of 2025, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Valmeyer saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Avery Proffer, who went 2-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Proffer has launched this season.

As for Steeleville, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-8. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On Steeleville's side, Corinne Mueller made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 17 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Mueller has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kamryn Patterson, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Reagan Moore was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Valmeyer has already played their next contest, a 13-3 loss against Dupo on the 8th. Hopefully Steeleville paid attention to the Pirates' matchup: the next time they hit the field , they'll take on the Pirates at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
