Softball Game Preview: Hall-Dale Bulldogs vs. Nokomis Warriors

The Hall-Dale Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Nokomis Warriors at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hall-Dale is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.

Hall-Dale is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maine's top teams: Lisbon, who was ranked 14th at the time (Hall-Dale was ranked third). The Bulldogs put the hurt on the Greyhounds with a sharp 8-2 victory on Friday. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by six runs or more this season.

Lucy Gray made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Torie Tibbetts, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Emma Perry was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Hall-Dale kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lisbon only managed four hits.

Meanwhile, Nokomis sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Gardiner on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won three in a row.

Hall-Dale pushed their record up to 8-0 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Nokomis, their record is now 2-4.

Hall-Dale suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Nokomis when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
