Basketball Recap: Edison Falls Despite Big Games from Isaiah Coilton and Alonzo Ward

On Saturday, the Edison Vikings were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 56-50 to the Rio Americano Raiders.

Alonzo Ward and Isaiah Coilton certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Ward went 6 of 12 en route to 14 points and three steals, while Coilton dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Ward has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tytus Billingsly, who posted nine points.

Even though they lost, Edison smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Americano only pulled down five offensive boards.

It was another big night for Ian Engh, who went 8 of 13 on his way to 21 points for Rio Americano. With that strong performance, Engh is now averaging an impressive 15.2 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Adrian Devenecia, who put up ten points.

Edison's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Rio Americano, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-4.

Edison didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 52-49 loss against Pittsburg on the 8th. As for Rio Americano, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 55-54 victory against Woodcreek on the 7th.
