Softball Game Recap: West Islip Lions vs. Comsewogue Warriors

West Islip had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 6-9 to make it seven. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 5-2 to the Comsewogue Warriors, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-0 back in April.

As for Comsewogue, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 5-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games.

For Comsewogue's part, Maggie Burrell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Burrell was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Adrianna Napolitano, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Natalia Pashkin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, West Islip will take on Centereach at 5:15 p.m. on Friday. The Cougars have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.43 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Comsewogue, they will challenge Deer Park at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Warriors' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
