Football Game Preview: Decatur Eagles vs. Southwest Raiders

The Decatur Eagles will face off against the Southwest Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Decatur's favor is that they have posted at least 31 points in their last six contests.

Decatur is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Springtown just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a blow against the Porcupines, falling 63-36. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Porcupines are ranked 74th).

The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Rhys Ragan and Kaine Hill. Hill had a great game and rushed for 186 yards and six scores on only 11 carries. Meanwhile, Ragan was balling out in the loss, throwing for 336 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 12.9 yards per attempt.

Meanwhile, Southwest had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 40-7 win over the Cougars. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won three games by 29 points or more so far this season.

Southwest's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Decatur, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 5-3.

Everything came up roses for Decatur against Southwest in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 45-0 win. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
