Sterling is 9-1 against Rock Falls since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Golden Warriors will square off against the Rockets at 4:30 p.m. Sterling is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Sterling's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Alleman as they made off with a 13-0 victory. The win was familiar territory for the Golden Warriors, who have now won three contests in a row.
Kaity Taylor was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Mya Lira also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Sterling hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Rock Falls had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came out on top against the Dukes & Duchesses by a score of 4-1.
Zoey Silva spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Rock Falls' victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Kacie Witherow, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Witherow is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Rylee McFadden was another, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Sterling's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Rock Falls, their record now sits at 10-18.
Sterling was able to grind out a solid win over Rock Falls when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 4-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Warriors since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
