Basketball Recap: Mitchell Comes Up Short

Mitchell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They lost 62-42 to the Gering Bulldogs. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Tigers of the 63-35 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Despite the loss, Mitchell saw an underclassman step up: freshman Morgan Paetow posted 13 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Pieper, who scored nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gering to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacelyn Brown, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards. That's the most rebounds Brown has posted since back in January of 2024. Ke?ra Baard was another key player, putting up eight points along with seven steals and six boards.

Mitchell's defeat dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Gering, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 9-6.

Mitchell wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 61-10 victory against Liberty Tree Academy on the 31st. Gering has also already played their next matchup, a 49-39 win against Scottsbluff on the 31st.
