Softball Recap: Orleans Gets the Win

Orleans took a six-run defeat the last time they faced off against North Daviess, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs came out on top in a nail-biter against the Cougars on Monday, sneaking past 6-4. For the Bulldogs, this counts as revenge for the 6-0 victory the Cougars walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2023.

Ava Cooper made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other batting news, Chelsea Ralph was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cambree Cline, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Orleans kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matches.

Orleans' record is now 15-3. As for North Daviess, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 15-7.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Orleans will head out to challenge Barr-Reeve at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bulldogs 2.6, the Vikings 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for North Daviess, they will venture away from home to take on Springs Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
