Football Recap: Connally Cadets vs. Alvarado Indians
Connally lost against Alvarado back in September of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Cadets were beaten by the Indians 70-21. The Cadets were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 42-7.
Connally lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Caden Coffman, who threw for 327 yards and one TD, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. 121 of Coffman's passing yards were hauled in by Va'Shon Ritcherson.
Alvarado got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Demarcus Belton out in front who rushed for 186 yards and four scores while picking up 11.6 yards per carry. Belton's longest rush was for an incredible 71 yards. Another rusher making a difference was Schyler Dethorne, who gained 201 total yards and two touchdowns.
This is the second loss in a row for Connally and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Alvarado, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.
Coming up, Connally is taking a road trip to square off against Athens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Alvarado, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Glen Rose at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Indians will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 33.25 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
