Softball Game Preview: Hurricane Redskins vs. East Carter Raiders

The Hurricane Redskins will take on the East Carter Raiders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

East Carter will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Hurricane extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday. The Redskins put the hurt on George Washington with a sharp 17-2 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Redskins considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Kate Justice looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jaden Jones, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits she has posted over her last 12 games. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadley Lawson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one double.

Hurricane always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .700. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as George Washington only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, East Carter won against West Carter on Monday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Raiders didn't even let Elliott County on the board, marking the Raiders' second-straight 15-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Raiders sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.

East Carter pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Hurricane, their victory bumped their record up to 18-2.

Hurricane took their win against East Carter in their previous matchup back in April of 2017 by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Redskins repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
