Preview: St. Anthony Yellowjackets vs. TMI-Episcopal Panthers
The St. Anthony Yellowjackets will head out on the road to challenge the TMI-Episcopal Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. TMI-Episcopal took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on St. Anthony, who comes in off a win.
St. Anthony can now show off 11 landslide victories after their most recent game on Wednesday. They blew past Providence Catholic 62-37. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory St. Anthony has posted since December 7, 2023.
St. Anthony can attribute much of their success to Lisette Vargas, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds and four blocks, and Laura Sierra, who dropped a triple-double on 15 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 blocks. That's the first time this season that Vargas posted two or more blocks. Alejandra Vargas was another key contributor, scoring five points along with 13 assists and four blocks.
Meanwhile, TMI-Episcopal's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their sixth straight loss. They were beaten by St. Joseph Academy 54-7. While losing is never fun, TMI-Episcopal can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1364th, while St. Joseph Academy is ranked 443rd).
The victory makes it two in a row for St. Anthony and bumps their season record up to 13-11. As for TMI-Episcopal, they bumped their record down to 1-9 with that loss, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.
Everything came up roses for St. Anthony against TMI-Episcopal in their previous matchup back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 52-9 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for St. Anthony since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
