Edwardsville has gone 8-2 against Mater Dei recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Knights at 10:00 a.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Edwardsville barely beat Collinsville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tigers put the hurt on the Kahoks with a sharp 13-2 win on Thursday. The Tigers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 contests by six runs or more this season.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mater Dei). They blew past Breese Central 20-1 on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Knights with their most commanding win of the season.
Emma Diekemper made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Mater Dei got a massive performance out of Sophie Roelfs, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave Roelfs a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maddy Huels, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Mater Dei was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .621. They are 3-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Edwardsville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Mater Dei, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-5-1.
Edwardsville came out on top in a nail-biter against Mater Dei when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
