Basketball Game Preview: Calhoun Red Devils vs. Gilmer County Titans

Calhoun is 2-8 against Gilmer County since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Calhoun Red Devils will host the Gilmer County Titans at 7:00 p.m. Given that both suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

After dropping their season opener at home, Gilmer County is headed out to face a Red Devils squad ready to give their home crowd a win. Calhoun received a blow on Tuesday as they fell 50-31 to Webster County.

Despite the loss, Calhoun had strong showings from Baron Davis, who posted 18 points, and Micah Allen, who put up five points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Allen a new career-high in rebounds.

Meanwhile, Gilmer County played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Doddridge County and fell 71-43. The Titans haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Calhoun will need focus on slowing down Jacob Mick, one of several Gilmer County players who made an impact when they last played. He went 8 of 18 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. The game was Mick's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachariah Wine, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 boards.

Calhoun didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Gilmer County when the teams last played back in January, but they still walked away with a 46-42 win. Will Calhoun repeat their success, or does Gilmer County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
