Gilmer won against Fannin County last Friday with 42 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. Everything went the Bobcats' way against the Union County Panthers as they made off with a 42-20 win. The Bobcats pushed the score to 35-7 by the end of the third, a deficit the Panthers cut but never quite recovered from.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Madden Hopkins and Cheyne Smith. Hopkins rushed for 94 yards and a pair of TDs while Smith gained 107 total yards.

Union County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haze Burnett, who picked up 62 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Bentley Rich handled things on the ground, rushing for 84 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Gilmer has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Looking ahead, Gilmer will be playing in front of their home fans against Pickens at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Union County, they are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on Fannin County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
