Baseball Recap: Cowan Blackhawks vs. Monroe Central Golden Bears
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Shenandoah, Cowan was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Monroe Central Golden Bears by a score of 5-2. The Blackhawks have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Golden Bears, too.
Gentry Groves spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cowan let Jaydon Auker and Luke Garrett run wild. Auker went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double, while Garrett went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Auker is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Jake Self also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
