Basketball Recap: Fruita Monument's Higher State Rank on Full Display on Friday

Fruita Monument won the last time they faced Durango and things went their way on Friday too. The Fruita Monument Wildcats strolled past the Durango Demons with points to spare, taking the game 58-42. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while the Demons are ranked 76th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jhett Wells was his usual excellent self, putting up 20 points. Another player making a difference was Daniel Thomason, who made all 5 shots he took to post 14 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Despite the loss, Durango still got an impressive performance from Noah Miles, who went 12 for 21 en route to 19 points and three steals. The contest was Miles' fourth in a row with at least ten points.

Fruita Monument pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Durango, their defeat ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-6.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Grand Junction the next time they take the court. Durango will host Grand Junction at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Fruita Monument will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on February 7th.
