Basketball Recap: Merrol Hyde Magnet Comes Up Short

Merrol Hyde Magnet lost against East Robertson back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Merrol Hyde Magnet Hawks were dealt a 70-39 loss at the hands of the East Robertson Indians. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 299th, while the Indians are ranked 130th).

Despite the defeat, Merrol Hyde Magnet saw an underclassman step up: freshman Melania Couret posted 18 points. Couret's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Ainsley Mitchell, who put up seven points.

Merrol Hyde Magnet's loss dropped their record down to 8-14. As for East Robertson, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Merrol Hyde Magnet will square off against Valor College Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for East Robertson, they will face off against White House at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
