Madison Central is a perfect 7-0 against Germantown since November of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Madison Central was handed a heart-breaking two-point defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Murrah on Friday. The Jaguars blew past the Mustangs 45-14. The contest marked the Jaguars' most dominant win of the season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Madison Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tripp Smith, who threw for 153 yards and two TDs. Mikel Stephen was in the mix too, providing the Jaguars with two touchdowns.
Madison Central's run defense was locked in: Murrah could only muster 3.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least nine total tackles, Keevon Jacobs stood above the rest. He made nine total tackles (6.0 for loss). Madison Central's ground attack was stronger, having averaged five.
Madison Central didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Venson Moore and Banks Boyer. Moore got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Germantown faced Oxford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Mavericks and the Chargers were almost perfectly matched up, but the Mavericks suffered a 43-42 loss. The Mavericks' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Madison Central will need to focus on slowing down King White, one of several Germantown players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 91 yards and one score, and also threw for 200 yards and a pair of TDs. Lawson Branson was another key player, gaining 183 total yards and a touchdown.
Madison Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 30.5 points over those games. As for Germantown, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
