Basketball Game Preview: Gregory-Portland Wildcats vs. Flour Bluff Hornets

Gregory-Portland is 0-10 against Flour Bluff since December of 2018 but things could change on Tuesday. The Gregory-Portland Wildcats will face off against the Flour Bluff Hornets at 11:45 a.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Gregory-Portland beats Flour Bluff with 51 points on Tuesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Gregory-Portland put the hurt on Rockport-Fulton with a sharp 51-31 victory on Friday. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 407th, while the Pirates are ranked 964th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Flour Bluff had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Bears by a score of 58-46.

Flour Bluff's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.2 points per game. As for Gregory-Portland, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season.

Gregory-Portland came up short against Flour Bluff in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 47-34. Can Gregory-Portland avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
