League recap: Wolsey-Wessington extends winning streak with victory over Sunshine Bible Academy

Wolsey-Wessington added to the longest winning streak in 281 (9 Man) this week by beating Sunshine Bible Academy, 45-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

Wolsey-Wessington took down the Crusaders 45-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Lorenzo Williams threw for 79 yards and 2 touchdowns and ran for 92 yards in the win.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Joe Davis threw for 112 and 2 touchdowns and Tyler Krueger had 63 yards receiving. On the ground Austin Messmer contributed 175 yards.

Messmer was a passing and rushing force as the Redmen topped Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian. Messmer's key target this week was Krueger, who caught 2 passes for 63 yards.

Messmer was the best running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 175 yards as Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central beat the Black Panthers. Teammate Landon Ochsner added to the ground attack by rushing for 40 yards.

Jason Kolousek's team's Davis and Messmer have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Davis has thrown for 376 yards this season, while Messmer has 9 catches for 185 yards. Ryne Johnson from Gordon Hooks' team leads the league in rushing with 830 yards.

A big matchup in 281 (9 Man) this week will be when Hitchcock-Tulare takes on the Redmen. As it stands, the Patriots are in third, while Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central is in second.

The Redmen made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 593 from 646. The improvement was the result of a 36-6 victory over Platte/Geddes/Dakota Christian last week.
