Softball Recap: Stuarts Draft Find Success

Stuarts Draft's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Nelson County Governors by a score of 7-3. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 8-3 back in March.

Karlee Layne was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lyla Shifflett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Lillian Krieg was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.

The victory got Stuarts Draft back to even at 10-10. As for Nelson County, they dropped their record down to 3-14 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Coming up, Stuarts Draft will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Buckingham at 5:00 p.m. As for Nelson County, they will head out to challenge Altavista at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Colonels have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.27 runs per game on average), something the Governors will no doubt try to take advantage of.
