Softball Recap: Temecula Prep Comes Up Short

Temecula Prep had lost five straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-14 to make it six. They lost 13-1 to the Hamilton Bobcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bobcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-4 back in March.

Temecula Prep saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nahri Scarlett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Hamilton, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 9-5. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Hamilton's side, Kaitlynn Barreto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Barreto has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.

In other batting news, Brady Fink was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with six stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Genesis Andrade was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles.

Coincidentally, Temecula Prep and Hamilton will both be playing San Jacinto Valley Academy the next time they take the field. The Bobcats will head out to face the Wolves at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Patriots will head out to face them at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
