Baseball Recap: Stagg Sets Scoring Season-High Against Chavez

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stagg). They blew past the Chavez Titans 28-0 on Monday. With that win, the Delta Kings brought their scoring average up to 7.2 runs per game.

Michael Hutchinson and Aelias Guerrero made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Hutchinson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Guerrero tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave Hutchinson a new career-low in walks (zero). At the plate, Hutchinson scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances, while Guerrero got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, one triple, and two RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Hutchinson snagged this season.

In other batting news, Jackson Brooks was incredible, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Glatz, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5.

Stagg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Stagg is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing ten hits in those games compared to only 2.75 in the others. Chavez is on a 12-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Stagg is set to challenge their familiar foe Franklin at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Chavez will take on rival Bear Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
