Softball Recap: Mumford Has No Trouble Against Hitchcock

Mumford's game on Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They never let the Hitchcock Bulldogs get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. The matchup marked the Mustangs' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Emma Loehr was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kelsie Rangel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jayla Martinez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Mumford was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Hitchcock only posted a batting average of .100.

The win snapped Mumford's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-3 record. As for Hitchcock, their defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-1.

Looking ahead, Mumford will welcome Alpha Omega Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Hitchcock, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Hardin at 3:00 p.m.
