Preview: Western Christian Fighting Lancers vs. Cerritos Dons
The Western Christian Fighting Lancers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cerritos Dons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given how much these teams ran in their prior games.
It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Western Christian had no problem doing just that on Friday. They had just enough and edged Victor Valley out 50-48. This was one game where the offenses had no trouble playing at a high level.
It was another big night for Jared Doolittle, who threw for 368 yards and four touchdowns, and also rushed for 87 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Doolittle was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards. Another player making a difference was Elijah Vasquez, who picked up 136 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Cerritos came tearing into Friday's match with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 37.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 24-12 victory over Fillmore.
Cerritos can attribute much of their success to Dikshanta Adhikari, who rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.8 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Park, who rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Western Christian's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-4. As for Cerritos, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-5.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Western Christian has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 297.4 passing yards per game.
