Baseball Game Preview: San Tan Foothills Sabercats vs. Payson Longhorns

San Tan Foothills is preparing for their first region matchup of the season on Wednesday. They will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on the Payson Longhorns at 3:45 p.m. San Tan Foothills has given up an average of 10 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

San Tan Foothills is headed into Wednesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They lost 21-8 to Ray.

Cody Tipple and Joseph Lorona stepped up to the plate in a big way. Tipple scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Lorona went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Tipple has posted since back in March of 2024. TJ Miller was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

While Payson didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-20-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with a 14-11 win over ALA - Ironwood on Monday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Longhorns.

Payson's victory bumped their record up to 6-2. As for San Tan Foothills, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-6.

San Tan Foothills couldn't quite get it done against Payson when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-5. Can San Tan Foothills avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
