Softball Game Preview: Alvord Bulldogs vs. Nocona Indians

The Alvord Bulldogs will challenge the Nocona Indians at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Alvord managed to slip by Lindsay the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. Alvord lost 8-1 to Lindsay on Friday. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since March 17, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Alvord saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Makayla Gresham, who went 1-for-2 with one double. That double marked the first that Gresham hit this season.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Nocona's offense. They came up short against Muenster on Friday, falling 15-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Indians in their meetings with the Hornets: they've now lost six in a row.

Alvord dropped their record down to 2-6 with the loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Nocona, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 6-6.

Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Alvord has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .470. However, it's not like Nocona struggles in that department as they've averaged .668. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Alvord couldn't quite finish off Nocona in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 6-4. Can Alvord avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
