Baseball Game Preview: Ocean Springs Greyhounds vs. Northwest Rankin Cougars

For the second straight game, Ocean Springs will face off against Northwest Rankin. The Greyhounds will head out on the road to face off against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ocean Springs has four straight wins, Northwest Rankin has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Ocean Springs is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They put the hurt on Northwest Rankin with a sharp 9-2 victory.

Jack Jordan made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Cannon Hensarling was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Jeremy Korn also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Ocean Springs always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Northwest Rankin only posted an OBP of .280.

Ocean Springs' win was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 23-5-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Northwest Rankin, their loss dropped their record down to 12-15-1.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Ocean Springs has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Northwest Rankin struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
