Basketball Recap: Medicine Valley Raiders vs. Southwest Roughriders
Medicine Valley lost against Southwest back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Medicine Valley Raiders were dealt a 46-18 loss at the hands of the Southwest Roughriders. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 247th, while the Roughriders are ranked 40th).
Remmi Stout was Medicine Valley's leading scorer, having posted eight points. Kamree Elsten took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with three assists.
Southwest found their leader in freshman Aspen Billeter, who went 6 of 12 en route to 18 points in addition to seven boards and five assists. Those five assists set a new season-high mark for Billeter. The team also got some help courtesy of Allison Vanpelt, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 14 points and three steals.
Medicine Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season. As for Southwest, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-1.
Medicine Valley wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 37-24 defeat against Cambridge on the 27th. Southwest has also already played their next contest, a 60-40 victory against Arapahoe on the 27th.
