Veterans triumphant thanks to a strong effort from Chandler Thomas

Recap: Veterans Warhawks vs. Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets

Even though the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, the Veterans Warhawks still came out on top. Veterans walked away with a 77-64 victory over Thomas County Central. Given Veterans' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while Thomas County Central is ranked 291st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Chandler Thomas, who scored 31 points along with seven steals and six rebounds. He is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Antonio ??tone?? scott was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.

Charlie Dunbar IV and Jirah Spencer certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Dunbar IV dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Spencer scored 15 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Spencer has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Decameron Duncan, who scored nine points along with four steals.

Even though they lost, Thomas County Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Veterans only pulled down five offensive rebounds.

Veterans' win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Thomas County Central, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-12 record this season.

Veterans and Northside will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. One thing working in Veterans' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight contests. As for Thomas County Central, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Houston County at 4:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Houston County has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 191 points over their last three matches.
