Baseball Game Preview: South Broward Bulldogs vs. Everglades Gators

The South Broward Bulldogs will be taking part in a tournament against the Everglades Gators at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.

South Broward came up short against NSU University on Thursday, falling 10-3. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Sharks recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

South Broward saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Christian Font, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3. Those two runs gave Font a new career-high.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Everglades ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Ferguson 3-2. That's two games straight that the Gators have won by just one run.

Gabriel Billini was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that he's stolen this season. Another player making a difference was Matthew Urena, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

The victory made it two in a row for Everglades and bumps their season record up to 2-3. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for South Broward, they now have a losing record of 2-3-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. South Broward has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Everglades struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.6 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

South Broward was able to grind out a solid win over Everglades in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 5-2. Will South Broward repeat their success, or does Everglades have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
