Softball Recap: Rio Grande Ravens vs. Albuquerque Bulldogs
Rio Grande had lost three straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it four. They lost 15-5 to the Albuquerque Bulldogs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bulldogs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 17-1 on April 4th.
Mercedes Valenzuela made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Yvette 'Bear' Breneiser, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
As for Albuquerque, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.2 runs.
On Albuquerque's side, Emma Gonzalez was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Gonzalez continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Honey Fields also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Coming up, Rio Grande will head out on the road to square off against East Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Ravens are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a 22-game losing streak. As for Albuquerque, they will welcome Dexter at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will need to watch out since the Demons have now posted at least ten runs in their last seven contests.
