Football Game Preview: Northwest Texans vs. Southlake Carroll Dragons

The Northwest Texans are taking a road trip to challenge the Southlake Carroll Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Northwest has given up an average of 28.5 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Northwest came into their game on Friday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Keller Central, falling 37-17. The matchup marked the Texans' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Although Northwest took the loss, they still got scores from Caris Sela and Jaylin Mathis.

Northwest didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Nic Curley.

Meanwhile, Southlake Carroll put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past V.R. Eaton 66-7. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Dragons' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked first, while the Eagles are ranked 131st).

Northwest better keep an eye on Angelo Renda. He was instrumental in Southlake Carroll's win, throwing for 305 yards and three touchdowns while completing 88.2% of his passes, and also rushing for 38 yards. That's the most rushing yards Renda has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Davis Penn, who rushed for 50 yards and three TDs.

Northwest dropped their record down to 2-4 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Southlake Carroll, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.

Northwest was taken down by Southlake Carroll 48-7 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Texans were down 28-7.
