Baseball Recap: Union Comes Up Short

Union extended their losing streak to three on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-14 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 6-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Elizabeth Minutemen. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Minutemen this season, with their most recent defeat being a 8-1 loss back in April.

As for Elizabeth, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. The win was nothing new for Elizabeth as they're now sitting on three straight.

For Elizabeth's part, Ian Acevedo made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Acevedo was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaime Tamayo, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Union will head out on the road to square off against Governor Livingston at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Elizabeth, they will welcome Johnson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
