Century (Md.) jumps into the rankings at No. 15 after big victories.

With only two seniors and a defense that includes three freshmen, many thought Century (Md.) might be a year away from battling the top teams in Baltimore's hotbed of IAAM powerhouses.

But on Saturday, the Knights improved to 7-0 by stunning former No. 5 Notre Dame Prep, 9-4, and then using a 10-1 run in the second half to down South River, 17-8, in a round robin tourney. Century enters the MaxPreps Xcellent 25 at No. 15.

"We started out the year very young and we've been continually getting better," said Century coach Becky Trumbo-Groves. "The big thing for us is that we have a lot of talent and our practices are very competitive.

"The subs are pushing the starters, and the freshmen are really coming on. I thought we had the potential to do that (beat Notre Dame Prep) and I didn't know if we were there yet."

Junior defender Tara Hart has been the anchor for the young back line and junior goalie Allison Remenapp has been a standout. She had 14 saves against Notre Dame Prep and 10 more against South River.

The two seniors, Angela Flister (signed with Florida) and Alice Mercer (Maryland), have been instrumental in the 7-0 start. Flister had 10 goals in the two wins Saturday.
