Baseball Recap: Pine Plains Triumphs

Pine Plains's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Millbrook Blazers by a score of 10-5. This was a revenge game for the Bombers: when they faced off against the Blazers back in April, they had to take a 7-3 defeat.

Brodie Rathjen made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 15 batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off four hits. Pine Plains is 2-1 when Rathjen posts eight or more strikeouts, but 4-5 otherwise. Rathjen was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Warren Lounsbury, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. He has become a key player for Pine Plains: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 3-6 otherwise.

The win got Pine Plains back to even at 6-6. As for Millbrook, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Pine Plains will square off against Highland at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Huskies' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Bombers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Millbrook, they will take on Rhinebeck at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
