Baseball Recap: Uwharrie Charter Academy Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against West Stanly, Uwharrie Charter Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They had just enough and edged out the Providence Grove Patriots 2-1. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

Brett Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up seven Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, Uwharrie Charter Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grat Dalton, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Uwharrie Charter Academy now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Providence Grove, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Uwharrie Charter Academy will venture away from home to take on Trinity at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Providence Grove, they will head out to square off against Surry Central at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Surry Central will roll in looking for their seventh straight win, something Providence Grove surely won't give up without a fight.
