Basketball Recap: Kiowa Falls Short of Merino in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Kiowa can now relate to. They were dealt a 59-6 defeat at the hands of the Merino Rams on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Indians can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Rams are ranked 15th).

It was another big night for Kya Piel, who went 5-for-8 en route to 14 points and five steals for Merino. Piel has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 20 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jadelynn Powell, who posted ten points and three steals.

Kiowa's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Merino, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 22-1.

Kiowa does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Merino, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-24 victory against Calhan on the 8th.
