Volleyball Recap: Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers vs. Cotopaxi Pirates

Cripple Creek-Victor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to the Cotopaxi Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pioneers of the 3-2 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Cripple Creek-Victor was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Cotopaxi work for it, especially in the fourth set. The final score came out to 25-18, 25-16, 20-25, 26-24.

Allyson Durham paced Cripple Creek-Victor's offense, picking up six kills. Durham got some help from Savannah Mead and her 15 assists. Finally, Katie Bennett kept Cripple Creek-Victor's defense grounded, leading the team with eight blocks.

Cotopaxi found their leader in freshman Sophie Eggleston, who had 35 digs and three aces. Those 35 digs set a new season-high mark for Eggleston. Another player making a difference was Riley Swann, who had 20 digs.

Cripple Creek-Victor's defeat dropped their record down to 1-10. As for Cotopaxi, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Coming up, Cripple Creek-Victor will host Kiowa at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Cotopaxi, after both having extra time off, they and South Park will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on the 9th.
