Softball Game Preview: Kennett Indians vs. Campbell Camels

Kennett has gone a perfect 10-0 against Campbell recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Indians will challenge the Camels at 3:00 p.m. Kennett is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12.1 runs per game this season.

Kennett is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Clearwater just ended the team's 14-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of the Fightin' Tigers by a score of 1-0. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Indians' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Handley McAtee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Campbell). They were the clear victors by a 15-9 margin over Puxico on Saturday. The Camels not only won on Saturday, but they posted their biggest win since April 6, 2024.

Sabine Johnson was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Hartlee Wills was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Kennett's loss dropped their record down to 15-3. As for Campbell, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.

Campbell's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Kennett has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .488. It's a different story for Campbell, though, as they've only averaged .315. Will they be able to contain Kennett's hitters?

Everything went Kennett's way against Campbell in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Kennett made off with a 27-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
